My mom is a post stroke patient who had undergone several physical therapy sessions, acupuncture treatments and the works. Also, she has been taking several medicines to help lowering her blood pressure and cholesterol levels. sad to say after all those treatments, her balance is still not that good and her BP and cholesterol is still high. My brother and I introduced her to Bikram Yoga. She immediately enrolled herself to the introductory class. She noticed after several sessions that her balanced has improved and she felt better. Just the other day, we went to her cardio for her regular check-up, guess what? Her BP has normalized, cholesterol level was low. Oh by the way, she doesn’t take her BP and cholesterol meds anymore. A friend and I decided to try Bikram Yoga together since we talked about getting fit, but only if it would seriously kick our butts into shape. I thought the first class would kill me, yet it’s been 2 years, 2 30- day challenges and I’m still attending classes at least 3x a week. I may not have achieved looking like a supermodel (yet), but I’ve learned to love my imperfections physically and in my practice. I love this type of yoga because the sweating is nothing compared to any workout I’ve tried. The friendly vibe at the studio helped me make friends with the teachers and students. Make sure not to miss their parties at BYG, they sure know how to have a good time! – Kate Santos
